History Revived At An Architectural Masterpiece
Grand Light recently teamed with the Eichberg Construction, SmithGroup, Pillar Development, LLC and Allen Built, Inc. in restoring 50+ Historic Fixtures from the iconic Washington National Cathedral’s renovated Virginia Mae Center!
Located in Washington, D.C., the newly christened Virginia Mae Center, formerly known as the College of Preachers, is a Gothic architectural masterpiece that opened in 1929.
This restoration project included a wide range of varying fixtures, including chandeliers, pendant lights, wall sconces, and ceiling lights. The existing finish on all the fixtures had deteriorated with numerous fixtures requiring a new custom metal oil finish.
All electrical components would be replaced with UL listed products and test in accordance with UL 1598 standards.
The featured chandeliers were disassembled and walnut/soda blasted, utilizing Grand Light’s new industrial Media Blast Cabinet with a large 48″x48″ work area and adjustable turn table, to prepare the raw steel surface.
Grand Light artisans then applied multiple hand applications of UV Protective Metal Oil Top Coating containing binders, rust, and UV inhibitors.
Our hope is that the Washington National Cathedral parish, patrons, and guests will appreciate the beauty of these truly unique pieces of art for decades to come!!!
