Project Info
Project Description
The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, often called the Portsmouth Navy Yard, is a United States Navy shipyard that was established on June 12, 1800 during the administration of President John Adams. Located in Kittery on the southern boundary of Maine near the city of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Portsmouth is the U.S. Navy’s oldest continuously operating shipyard and tasked with the overhaul, repair, and modernization of US Navy submarines.
Grand Light restored multiple historic exterior lanterns from the shipyard. The restoration involved removing the existing painted finish, media blast and refinish with a semi gloss black finish, and a application of UV resistant protective lacquer top coat. Existing original glass panels were ultrasonically cleaned and (2) mismatch pieces were replaced with a close match. All fixtures were rewired in accordance with UL standards.
