Progress Continues with Yale Calhoun College Lighting Fixtures
Several different lighting fixtures from Yale’s Calhoun College are currently being worked on simultaneously in Grand Light’s restoration shop.
Below you can see a photo from a damaged wall sconce as it was being restored. The arm was bent so badly that the damaged section needed to be refabricated. With the damaged area removed, a new metal tube was heated, bent, and then soldered into place. The arm was then buffed and lacquered along with the other components of the sconce to bring back the fixture’s brilliant shine.
Below is a comparison photo of one of the several mirrored crystal wall sconces that were recently given a complete restoration:
The components of these sconces were dissembled, cleaned, polished, and lacquered. The crystals and mirrors were cleaned, and the sconces were given new candle covers.
In addition to the completion of the sconces, work has continued on the several large two-tier chandeliers that were mentioned in our previous update. Below you can see one of the chandeliers partially stripped of it’s components, which have been cleaned, buffed, and given a non-yellowing UV resistant lacquer coat.
