Around The Factory

American Artisans At Work Preserving History

Artifacts Restored – The Jewish Center NYC

The Jewish Center is an Orthodox synagogue and Modern Orthodox congregation, located in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The synagogue, founded in 1918 and located in a tall Neo-Classical building, was the first in America to be built not only to serve as spiritual home to its members, but also as a cultural, social and recreational home.

Grand Light was selected to restore the six historic chandeliers and eight wall sconces during a major renovation of the synagogue’s Sanctuary.

During initial factory evaluations it was discovered that the original steel finish had been covered up by gold paint. These findings were presented to the design team and it was decided the existing gold paint would be removed and the the original natural steel finish preserved.

Additionally, all brass components were refinished with an antique brass patina and burnished highlights.

Each chandelier was restored utilizing only UL listed products to ensure only the highest quality of standards. Multiple UL tests were performed on all electrical components and systems to ensure compliance with UL Standards for luminaires.

The fully assembled and restored chandelier with custom antique brass patina and original steel finish. We hope The Jewish Center’s community, patrons, and guests will appreciate the beauty of these truly unique pieces of art for decades to come!!!
